In the field of psychology, nature and nurture is one of the most enduring debates. This debate within psychology is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited or acquired characteristics. Characteristics and differences that are not observable at birth, but which emerge later in life, are regarded as the product of maturation. Some people say that nature, ones genetics, is the reason why they behave and act the way they do. Others argue that their behavior and actions are influenced and are a result of their nurture, which is the environment. Nature and nurture both play important roles in human life and development, but we have not known yet whether we are developed majorly because of nature or due to nurture. One of the most debated topic under nature vs. nurture today is, whether identical twins are predisposed to their personality or influenced by their environment. The topic of the different personalities of identical twins is to be quite interesting, especially now that the number of twins in America and in other parts of the world is increasing. In my family, there is one pair of twins who are the complete opposite of each other, even though they were raised the same way and in the same environment. This topic is interesting to study because it helps us interpret why they act the way they do.
