It has been debated throughout most of written history: whether mankind is essentially good, or bad at birth. The debate further stems into the idea of whether we nurture our loved ones at birth to fit our idea of good. well, nature vs. nurture is of little consequence, rather we are focusing on what is essentially good, and if we as humans can fall under that category. to start off, we shall define what is good. to be good, a person must care for those around them. they must not put themselves before others and to hate is detrimental. one character that is essentially good is Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter.
