What is the nature-nurture debate? According to McLeod, for the nature side of the debate “nature is what we think as pre-wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors” (McLeod, 2007, p. 1). He states the nurture side is “the influence of external factors after conception, experiencing and learning on an individual” (McLeod, 2007, p. 1). A more simple way to explain nature-nurture is that nature is your dna characteristics that make you who you are. Nurture is the environment you are brought up in and how you are taught to do things.
