Aristotle Nature Vs Nurture

In the debate of nature versus nurture I would conclude that Aristotle 's statement saying that who we are is primarily dependent on our environment seems to be very accurate. (book) Although I am not a scientist, I have done additional research to come to this conclusion that our personalities develop according to our environment. Many times when I answer the home phone, people assume that it is my mother who is answering. When they learn that it is me, her daughter, they are stunned and surprised because “we sound just a like.” Which makes me wonder how I could sound anything like my mother when I am not her biological daughter and we did not live together for the first five years of my life. Nurture and Nature are two ideas that are conflicting, but can both be backed up with facts. The nature side of the argument states that when a human is born they are born with their personality. The nurture side says that the personality a person enquires is learned and taught by their experiences and the people that they are with (book). Nativists believe that the characteristics of an individual is genetically coded in them (1). Meaning that there are specific characteristics pre programmed for us and as we mature they began to emerge. …show more content…
In this case, my adoptive father’s side of the family has a long line of people who were clinically diagnosed with depression. My father however does not let this affect him. By being in my mom’s presence who is always positive, he is then able to look at things from her point of view and defeat his depressing thoughts. This affects me being in a positive household because I am then able to react to tough circumstances in a better manner. Families who have depressed parents put the children at a disadvantage for achieving a more stable mindset and likewise, positive parents give their children and advantage
