The Black Bean is the best suited to its “habitat.” For our lab we placed 5 of each type of bean that included of the Whole green peas, Pinto beans, Cannellini beans, and Red Kidney beans into a habitat. We then rotated the habitat back and forth 10 times. This was one generation. Any beans that fell through the holes are considered dead. Any beans that stay in the habitat have survived and you multiple the current population of each bean by two.
After seven generations the black bean had the greatest population out of the different types of beans. At the end of the experiment the black bean population was 34. The other four types of beans had populations that were not as successful in the habitat.
