Natural instincts occur when you have to act quickly or having the gut feeling that something is not right in your surroundings. In the short story, “To Build a Fire”, the author stated, “ The feeling grew stronger until it became very painful, but the man welcomed the pain” (London 74). The insinct the man felt was pain and pain overcame his strength but his instinct was to take pain as it is. The charcater could have broke down and said it was done with but he learned to accept it and to fight through one of lifes toughest category and its pain. My first year was tough only because I have never played before, so I knew I had to get used to the traits of it. So I thought of softball and life and put the two together as the same standards, theres going to be obstacles, criticism, and pain along the way. Softball has given me scars, cuts, and made me bleed but just like the character in “To Build a Fire”, I had to accept the feeling of pain.
