Natural Disasters In El Salvador

El Salvador does not receive many tourist. It can be easily understood as to why. Within the last two decades, crime rates and homicides have increased drastically. Natural disasters occur frequently and death rates are at all-time high. Many tourist ask whether or not they should visit the country. The answer is no. the country is way too dangerous to visit. Visiting could be a life risking chance. El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America and is located between Guatemala and Honduras, boarding the Pacific Ocean. It is about the same size as New Jersey (The World Fact Book). It has a population of six million people. Poverty and death tolls are extremely high and continue to rise. They are called the “Maras”. The Maras consist of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18 (M-18). The gangs were first founded in California around the 1980s. They were the outcome of the Salvadoran Civil War going on at the time, which cost more than 75,000 lives. Refugees fled to the United States for safety and protection.
