During a tornado people could have been hurt where they required simple first aid or more urgent medical needs. Houses are more likely to be torn down and unsafe and this will require emergency shelter for these now homeless people. Many times the area where they get food and water is contaminated due to flooding or chemical releases. In circumstances like this food, water and shelter may need to be provided (Federal Emergency Management Agency, 2008).
Tornados can toss cars, trees, mobile home and etc. around like they are nothing. Many times search and rescue can be required for citizens who may have left their cars to avoid the tornado but now are unable to be located. This also includes people who are in crumpled buildings and unable to get out. They could be hurt or unable to call out for assistance. By assessing damage we can learn where we need resources and how many. This is vastly important since this information will dictate if a state of emergency is required. Many tornados can bare touch down and others can wreak havoc for miles. We must make sure that emergency calls are prioritized. It’s important for multiple victims and more hazardous situations to be taken care of first.
