Natural Birth Essay

After reading the textbook, performing an internet research, and questioning friends/family, I believe birth is both a natural occurrence and a medical emergency. I really liked how the Netherlands handle home births, an expecting family is assigned a midwife (who is paid by the government!) and a “flying stork” (ambulance) wait at their house in case of a complication during the delivery period (Berger, 2016, p. 66). The method I would chose for my family would be a natural child birth at a hospital. I think this method would be the best for the baby. One advantage to this method is the lack of drugs involved in the delivery process. Another reason to have a natural birth, babies who are delivered naturally receive beneficial bacteria in their gut by passing through the vagina canal. Babies who do not pass through the vagina canal lack the bacteria benefits associated and they are shown to have a weaker immune system, problems include: “asthma, allergies, Type 1 diabetes, Celiac disease, obesity” (Stein, 2016). The last advantage to having a natural birth is the baby arrives when they are naturally ready to leave the womb.
