Richard Wright’s classical novel Native Son is a story about Bigger Thomas, a 20-year old black young African-American man, who lived in the Southside of Chicago. He lives in poor conditions Bigger Thomas physical appearance has affected his moral traits throughout the story. Because of his dark skinned color he is born with limited opportunities which causes him to become aggressive, not only angry but fears the white Americans who are overpowered of him and his people.

In page 363 Bigger sank into his knees and sobbed, “I don’t want to die...I don’t want to die….” He knew he did not have a chance, he believed it. His ambition was held back and regulating his attitude toward death was the fact that he was black, unequal, and despised. Eventually he gets caught and is put in jail, he has time to accepted his moral guilt and responsibility for that murder because it had made him feel free for the first time in his life. To conclude, Bigger Thomas life has been greatly affected his moral traits for being a black African-American man. He hates his living conditions and wants the easy life of robbing stores and sneak into movies with his gang. Bigger has no choice but to live the life he has to live. Bigger accidently murdered a rich white who is considered a huge crime against him because he is black, which only make him feel hopeless.
