Both of these groups of people have been slaves at one point. However, Natives played a slightly different role. Before being inducted into slavery, many tribes were able to trade with the Europeans for goods and weapons. A prime of example of this would be the fur trade between the two groups as many Europeans desired fur, even to the point of threatening a few species of animals including the otter. This trading could be seen as an equal or almost equal standing between the Natives and the Europeans.
On the other hand, African Americans can be seen as the foundation of this country. Generally speaking, African Americans were slaves in the early years of the United States. As slaves, they built many buildings and worked on the farms. Seeing this, they were very vital in building the country. This includes the country overall and especially the economy. In the early days of America, African Americans still did not have equal rights but still regarded to more than the Natives. This was the time of the Three-fifths compromise in which every slave’s vote only counted as three-fifths of the vote a free white man would have. This lasted through most of America’s history. African Americans were also a large factor in the Mexican-American War. This was due to a ban of slavery in Mexico. Texans, who have moved into the land, brought slaves with them. With this factor and a disagreement in laws placed by the Mexican government, the war was started.
Although both Native Americans and African Americans were mistreated in the history of America, it is not difficult to say that both races went through many different hardcomings. Whether it was social, economical, or political, many events occurred to shape the lives of these people in the New World known as America.
