Worst Unemployment in Midwest, High Employment in Nebraska
Government housing. Alcohol and cigarettes. Just a few things that might make up a weekend on the reservation. This is a “good” weekend for Native Americans on the reservation, comparatively to other weekends which might include working and more working. While many Americans spend their weekends at home with families and going places, some American Indians do not.

Free health care. Less taxes. Less Money. Unemployment. When the money stops flowing, Native Americans move to the reservation.
These are all things that are on the reservation including less work ethic. I don’t know what poverty on the reservation looks like, this is just a general picture of what it could look like. Thankfully, my dad has kept me away form the part of the reservation.
Only 67.4% of the American Indian and Alaskan Natives are employed. While there is a percentage difference between Native Americans and Whites of employment, even within the Native American population between men and women there is a difference in employment.
Economic Depression
The worst affected areas of economic depression is the Midwest and the Southwest. The worst employment rate from border to border is in Arizona with an employment rate of 42.5%. The EPI stated that multiple factors can offset the data provided, such as age and number of tribal members.
In Oklahoma Native Americans have a 25% better chance of getting jobs than whites. While there generally is a negative difference between White and American Indian. Most whites have a better chance of being of being employed than Native Americans. Just about everyone in family, who is Native American and over the age of 40, has some form of cardiac disease. I am also at risk for cardiac disease. Some of theses issues could be prevented by better employment, responsibility and the will to take care of themselves.
Reservations At Face Value
I personally have been to many reservations, none of them are pretty. I can recall one out west in Montana, the most run down economically depressed reservation I have ever seen.
Montana has an employment rate of 67.1% and an employment gap of -14.2% between American Indians and Whites. The gas station didn’t have running water and dogs were running wild in the streets. It makes you feel like you’re in a different country. It’s almost scary to see that, once you see that you can’t unsee it. That image sticks with you.
I myself am Native American, so this topic hits me hard. This is my culture I am talking about. I have visited my own tribe’s reservation, even that is sad. I hate going there, I hate seeing my people do nothing but sit and drink
