The weather was pleasant and warm, not excessively hot to the point where it would be uncomfortable sleeping. The birds tweeting almost as if they were singing outside and the children’s laughter made the day perfect. It all sounded so perfect and oh so soothing. Just as I was home laying on the ground about to nap, I heard a call from the others. I left the luxury and comfort of my home, and was informed that there were these vast ships grander and further complex than ours out by the shore. These massive ships had just made it to our precious land not too long ago and there appeared to be people on-board. Now, that we had been caught we just gave up our little game of hide-and-seek and walked across the sand towards the group of men that were off the boat. What are some of the theories about how native people populated or first came to the North American continent? Explain some of the evidence that has been used to prove some of these theories. There are many theories about who the native people are and where they came from. Some European theories include saying that American Indians were one of the lost tribes of Israel, that they were descendants of a Welsh prince, or that they descended from early villagers of Polynesia, Phoenicia, the Middle East, or Japan. One theory about how native people populated the North American continent is that they came by sea, moving back the time when they may have migrated.…

Native American and European Traditions The English people who first immigrated to America slaughtered the Native Americans to near extinction because they thought the Indians were savages, but just how different, or similar, were the two groups. Both the Indians and Europeans had their own versions of a creation story, and they each had a sort of government that included a constitution. Between the two groups there are distinct comparisons and contrasts within the creation stories of the Indians, “The Sky Tree”, and “How the World was Made”, and the creation story of the bible in the book of “Genesis” as well as comparisons and contrasts between the two civic documents, The Iroquois Constitution, and The articles of the constitution of the…

What do you make of the irony that women were often treated quite well in Indigenous traditions and yet, today, Native American women are the group of women that experience the highest incidence of domestic violence? My reaction: It upsets me to think about the violence that women are experiencing throughout all cultures. For Native American women to be experiencing the highest domestic violence I feel at fault. If it weren 't for colonization and the “whites” invading the Native American territory the concept of women being less than men would never have been introduced to the Native American culture.…

Before this course I have taken other anthropology courses which taught me that they have lived here for a long time. I have always been interested most in Native American history and have had a good grasp on the timeline of their "arrival". I assumed that their arrival in Michigan would be a little bit later than their initial arrival in North America. I figured so because the journey over would take a little bit before moving on from exploring the northern west coast areas. Something that I found extremely surprising was the age that people get married in a Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle.…

Do you think nature plays a part in mankind creation or has anything to do with it? Nature is the most important aspect of life mankind needs, without nature people would not be able to find food, or survive the harsh living conditions, also civilization wouldn’t exist most importantly without it we would be extinct. First off, nature has been existing before man that’s why in native American literature nature is used for explaining most questions people have about their culture.
