When they tried to convert the Natives if they refused they took them away and turned them into their slaves, treated them worse than garbage, and killed them. Furthermore, The Europeans took any chance they had to kill the Natives. “Then the slaughter began: Knife strokes, and sword strokes, and death. The people of Cholula had not foreseen it, had not suspected it. They faced the Spaniards without weapons; without their swords or their shields. The cause of the slaughter was treachery. They died blindly, without knowing why, because of the lies of the Tlaxcaltecas.” (document 4) This may seem like it was really the Tlaxcaltecas but the Europeans were the ones who did the damage. The explorers didn’t even think twice about it, they killed Natives every chance they got, and didn’t bother trying to make it a fair fight.
In conclusion, the Europeans were responsible for the genocide of Native Americans. When converting them to Christianity, explorers would kill and enslave those who would refuse. The Natives suffered horribly,
