Over hunting, deforrestation, or desurction of other resources also forces humans to adapt. In North America over hunting of the buffalo and beavers as well as over grazing played a large roll in North american history. This was a result of the European settlers who wanted these resources leading to two species almost going extinct. The natives required the same resources of survivial creating harsh compitition between the two which eventually would lead to conflict. The horses bought over by the new settles had a profound impact on many different native cultures. West said of this "Horses appealed to plainsmen, most obviously, because they helped them do traditional work more efficiently, just as a pot made cooking easier.".3 Hunting, farming, and the lifestyle of the natives was suddenly changed. Nomadic life style was much easier and hunting of animals such as the buffalo was suddenly possible.
