The first people to live in North America came from Asia migrating over the Bering Strait land bridge. Although the time they arrived is not known for sure, the estimated time is between 12000 and 7000 B.C.E. All hunter-gathers, the North American Indians made their home quick with the abundant resources of the Americas. They quickly adapted to the environment and began very diverse cultures. The Native Americans did not create any empires but they did have fairly complex societies that were able to handle long distance trade, and build their own cities or villages. The more accomplished tribes of early North American were the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and the Mound Builders of the Northeast (Beck, et al, 2009). The …show more content…

Before Christopher Columbus “discovered” America in 1492, discoveries have recently found proof of inhabitants as early as 12,021 B.C.. However, the most widely accepted theory regarding early immigration to the Americas involves the Bering land bridge, a piece of land that once connected Alaska and Siberia. However, the land bridge theory, or Clovis theory, dates back to only 10, 984 B.C., almost 1,000 years after humans have been known to occupy North America. Two alternate theories are called the “Monte Verde” and “Kennewick Man” theories, allow me to explain. Tom Dillehay, and American anthropologist, was studying the Monte Verde site, Chile, in 1979.…

When Europeans came to North America for the first time, they called it The New World, because to them it was a land that was mysterious in many ways. The native population that lived in North America was nothing like that of Europe and the environment of North America was even more foreign. There was no way of knowing the effect of European settlement and what the consequences of their actions would be on the native people and the land. Before the invasion of Europeans in North America, the Natives had a system of living. Their way of life and ability to live off the land were soon challenged by European expansion and technology.…
