Nationalism Definition

Nationalism is a shared sense of identity based on important social distinctions that has the purpose of gaining or keeping control of the groups own destiny. Nationalism has many different sources with people that share ethnicity, language, religion culture, history and geographical location. Nationalism creates unity and wholesomeness amongst a certain group of people. Humans tend to organize into communities that share the same identity. This gives us a better understanding of how communities determine how we interact with others, and who we interact with. Many people who don’t share ideals and identities with others in their community tend to be seen as an outsider. People with collectively come together and join for the interests of the community. This can cause nationalism to intertwine with politics. The basic idea of Nationalism is that people try to develop a sense of self identity that people within the nation can share.

A country is defined as a geographical area that is governed by a government, which in most cases is at the will of the people.
