There have been many discussions about the cause of World War One and how nationalism and selfish ambition of countries contributed to it. It can’t be denied that both nationalism in many European countries and their selfish ambitions played a large role in the outbreak of The Great War. Nationalism has more than one definitions: 1) an extreme form of patriotism marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries; 2) advocacy of political independence for a particular country. Nationalist ideas were growing throughout Europe in the 19th century. In some countries it was more apparent than others. One nation which can’t not be mentioned are the Serbians.
