• As our society becomes ever more modernized we as a populous are losing our connection with essential characteristics that underlie the greatness of the United States. There exists three main characteristics, and they are the historical, cultural, and natural aspects of the United States. In order for our society to preserve this connection we must provide generations to come effective mediums of connection. One common medium is museums, which are effective to a certain extent. While in middle school I took part in the first Saunters program in the Lodi School District. During the program I lead my younger peers on day hikes where I educated them about the natural environment that surrounded them. In addition to leading my younger peers I took part in Mobile Skills Crew (MSC) events as a volunteer. The Ice Age Trail’s MSC primary purpose is to develop and maintain trail, mainly comprised of volunteers from various chapters. Through the Saunters program and the MSC events I was able to make a positive contribution to my community. This past summer I was given the opportunity to intern for the Ice Age Trail Alliance. During my internship I would go out and guide various saunters groups across Wisconsin. Moreover I would write grant reports and proposals for the funding of Saunters programs. The internship granted me the opportunity to inspire the students to be curious about the natural environment that surround them just as I was when I was their age. Additionally I made it my goal to motivate them to become involved in the Trail, essentially recruiting the next generation of
