The first professional organization that I chose to write about is The National Management Association. This organization is dedicated to leadership and guides members to take control in their own professional development. There are many chapters located throughout the United States. The National Management Association follows a statement of principles and a code of ethics that encourage leadership development. Charles Kettering founded the National Management Association in 1925 as a non-profit organization with headquarters located in Dayton Ohio. There are many advantages to joining The National Management Association. Some of these advantages include annual conferences that teach and encourage leadership skills. The conferences give people the ability to network with professionals in their field and others, share ideas and develop new leadership skills. The organization also supplies webinars and courses to its members. These courses are unique because they build virtual teams …show more content…
As a leadership studies student, it is important to have a networking plan. Networking will allow me to connect with other leaders in many different industries. I am currently a member of LinkedIn and Handshake but I need to be more active. I plan to connect with people I know and reach out to people that I do not know. I want to connect with people in leadership positions so I have more resources when I begin job searching. Networking will increase my visibility to potential employers and allow me to display my experience and education. Networking is a communicating, following up, learning and gaining creditability with your peers. As my studies continue, I will reach out to others via my networking accounts and learn about new types of leadership organizations.
