The National Living Wage (NLW) is often mistaken for ‘The Living Wage’ (LW), but the two are completely different. The NLW is essentially just a nicer sounding way of branding the national minimum wage, which is the minimum pay per hour most workers are entitled to by law, set by the government. The rate will depend on a worker's age and if they are an apprentice. As it stands, the NLW is £7.20 an hour for all workers over the age of 25, this figure is reviewed annually by the Low Pay Commission and is set to increase in April this year to £7.50, according to the ACAS website.
