In the scene where Griswold accidentally electrocutes the cat, sound effects such as the silence except for noise of the lights being fiddled with are employed. This places emphasis on the Christmas lights, creating anticipation for what is to come. Then a loud buzzing sound is used to signify that the lights have been turned on, right before the loud meow sounding from the cat. This sound effect placed emphasis on the cat and reveals the cat was to blame. In the next scene, lighting effects are the main focus of the scene. The contrast of bright lights to pitch darkness, create a comedic effect showing the neighbors being blinded by the light and darkness. In the next scene, emphasis is placed on the use of a musical soundtrack. The music creates anticipation on what is about to happen to Griswold as he rigs up the
