National Honors Society Reflection

As a high school student with a very busy schedule I have learned to focus on what is truly important. I believe the four pillars of the National Honors Society are great characteristics and goals for me to achieve. I understand the importance of balance. Absence of a pillar or too much of one can lead to an imbalance, therefore effecting ones character. I strive to succeed in the quest of achieving scholarship, service, leadership, and character. To me scholarship not only means academic success, but also picking yourself up when you fall. I have learned that failure is a huge part of life and without it we will never learn to succeed. Through trial and error I have gained many tools to help me succeed. Learning how to learn is the first step to academic success. Throughout the years my “toolbox” has become more and more filled. As I increase my knowledge I have also increased my yearning for …show more content…
Volunteering weekly at a tutoring center for less fortunate children has helped me to fully understand the importance of these characteristics. Putting others needs before your own can be a challenge. In many cases when tutoring a student I find myself getting frustrated when reexplaining a concept a million times or when the student is distracted with other things. Through practice of patience I am able to find ways around the many obstacles my job brings. This year being on Student Council for the first time has truly opened my eyes to the importance of leadership. Being a leader is not only being in charge, but being an good example for others. Putting myself out there and running for class officer took a lot of inner strength. I believe being part of the NHS Program will build up my confidence and help me be the true leader I know I can

Though I have not always been consciously aware of the four pillars of National Honor Society, the ideas behind them are what have undoubtedly shaped who I am today as well as who I want to be in the future. The first pillar, scholarship, is important because a commitment to learning is what has made me interested in engineering and innovation. Additionally, scholarship has driven me to seek a meaningful post-secondary education where I can advance my learning to help better society. Moreover, this pillar has motivated me to construct a goal of serving in the US Air Force.…

As of now, I have not been able to work on my deliverable, as that project will come into play when the activities and events of NAHS begin for the school year.
