1. NCSS Standard 6: Power, Authority and Governance

Students are assisted to develop a sense of fairness and order as they interact with their peers in school. This occurs either during playing games or individual practice. Students to be aware of the rights and responsibilities within the school. Student can also show responsibility with the assigned chores as well as in their homes /community. A student should be allowed to interview her/his principal and be informed of governance within the school. This way they can learn that in the government there are people in higher authority who collaborate with members of the community to develop the society and make sure there is a fair distribution of resources.

2. NCSS Standard 10: Civic Ideals and Practices Students are to be introduced to why it is necessary to have rules in their classroom and the need to follow them. They need to help in formulating rules and have them posted on the class bulletin board. Students will be educated that to be good citizens means following the laws, paying taxes helping people and taking care of the land. I will model good behaviors and encourage students to shows empathy toward each other. The teacher needs to promote healthy talk in a classroom and allow students to be engaged in free choice of activities; either to have games, to read a book or to do coloring. The students will learn to make their own decisions in a democratic way. Importantly, one can organize as class trip to a zoo; this could foster a sense of community among students who will learn to care for each other and work collaboratively.
