The National Honor Society (NHS) is a premier organization of high school students in the United States that was established to recognize excellence in students. But more than just being an honor roll, The National Honor Society serves to encourage students to go beyond academics and excel in the areas of leadership, community service, and character building. To become a member, one must exemplify the four pillars of the National Honor Society, which are character, leadership, scholarship, and service. I truly believe that I demonstrate all of these traits.

I’ve never been able to decline help to someone in need. I always put everyone else's needs before my own because when I sacrifice myself in order to put a smile on someone else’s face it gives me peace. Contributing to a cause to make the world a better place is worth the sleepless nights. When one is passionate about helping people it won’t matter to them how long they have to go without food or how tired they will feel at the end of the day. Just this week, I’ve had several occasions where I gladly gave up my time to do people favors or help someone in need.I always participate in school activities because I’m aware that it helps the school. I participate in my after school activities as well. I help my community by forming part of organizations such as the Huntington Youth Court. As a member of this organization I form part of a team of lawyers that are all in high school. Our job is to either be the defense attorney for teenagers who commit minor crimes on Long Island or be prosecuting attorney which looks to punish the teen for the crime they have committed. I think the biggest example I could give is the service I provide to my church. No matter what they need I am always there for them. I wish I could describe all the things I do but in reality I do everything. An example is that in my church I’m seen as a person that has a fair amount of knowledge of …show more content…
One role is public relations which is a job that encompasses many of the tasks listed in the above paragraph as well as other things. My second and largest position is being a secretary. In my church the secretary maintains a written account of everything that happens with the youth. Every detail of every church mass, event/activity is written down. You also have to assist the president of the youth in everything they need. Both leadership roles are part of the youth/adolescent board at my church which means that the goal of both roles is to benefit the youth in the church. You have to look out for the well being of the youth members and provide them with services (you’re basically a dean, guidance counselor, teacher, and friend all in one) . The privilege of being a church officer is only given to people who are seen as good role models. People that will set a good example for the rest of the adolescents in the church and are committed to bettering their experience. You have to be obedient, reliable, responsible and willing to work with others. This position also has many non secular (spiritual) responsibilities that come along with it. Not just anyone is allowed to have these positions. To be a good leader you have to care about the people you’re leading and your goal should always be to prepare those people so that they can be successful and achieve their

Being part of an organization like the National Honor Society would open doors to new opportunities such as tapping into a network of individuals that have similar interests as mine. If selected, I would help contribute to the growth of NHS by using my time helping other students achieve their goals academically, whether they need help with school work or studying. By mentoring, this would also help improve my leadership skills. Fenwick; thank you for your post, it was enjoyable to read, and most enlightening. It is one’s opinion that it is true as you stated the most important leading any Christian can do involves leading someone to Christ. In addition, one would concur that three most important aspects of the Christian life are Bible study, prayer, and soul winning; with soul winning the most need in the leadership challenge. A leader must openly witness for the Lord before he is formally employed by the Church, he will not be much of soul-winner afterwards (Frank Damazio 1987, 113).…

The National Honors Society defines what it means to serve the student body as well as the community. As a student athlete in the Sutton school system leadership, service, character and scholarship have impacted my very way of life. Having a persistent attitude is what makes a student shine and as a prospective candidate for NHS I will incorporate this quality into each of the four pillars improving the society as a whole. Three years ago I began the NHS application process though I had little experience in volunteering for the community and lacked the opportunity to develop myself as a leader this changed as my high school career went on. Through athletics and long hours of volunteering with the town's technology department has provided me with numerous opportunities as high school went on.…
