Founding Impact, a non-profit organization with the goal of educating youth on social issues and innovation gave me the opportunity to truly strengthen my leadership skills. Working alongside like-minded individuals, I was able to meet the unfulfilled need of a youth-led social justice initiative both in my school and the greater community. Millennials are consistently proving to be the most socially conscious generation and having youth-led workshops and discussions on social justice issues would further nurture this spirit. Although many of the issues I aimed to address were global, there was an unmistakable need to address pressing issues closer to home. The event had the ideal balance of entertainment and awareness, which ensured participation from a much higher number of students than those usually interested in social justice issues. Dodge for Hunger garnered massive involvement from the student body as students volunteered to organize the tournament, pledged to play, and donated to watch. Although entertainment was an important aspect of the event, we maintained the focus on hunger and poverty by holding a schoolwide assembly educating students on the issue that affects many in our own community. By partnering with community businesses to obtain donations for winning teams and incentives for top donating students, we increased the magnitude of positive impact we made. However, this was not uncomplicated - assembling a proactive team to plan, market and carry out an event for over 1600 people was an arduous, but ultimately worthwhile task. Our actions had remarkable results - we simultaneously collected over $2000 in donations for the Breakfast Club; raised awareness regarding poverty and hunger; and exponentially increased school spirit. Furthermore, we were recognized with an Honourable Mention by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board for a “Speak Up!” grant. The utter success of Dodge for Hunger subsequently means that we can continue, and even improve the event on a bigger scale

Hunger in America is a great problem but it can be prevented and eradicated as long as the nation has the will and determination to make it happen both on a national scale. In America alone, statistics prove that one in every six individuals face hunger on a regular basis. Although there is an astonishing amount of people who face hunger, this is not because there is an insufficient supply of food available in the country, but it is because many individuals are living in poverty or below the poverty line. As an Honors student, I work hard for the grades I earn and study for hours. In my free time I try to do as much as I can for anyone else. Working hard for my goals may come along with a challenge, but I can overcome anything as long as I put my mind to it. Over the summer, I found myself taking care of someone else’s pets and house.…

Leadership, to me, is being someone anyone can look up to. You don’t have to be the strongest, or the smartest, or any of those.…

As a young girl, growing up in different culture has made me learn and observe so many things. When I first got here in United States in 2009, education system was different from where I came from. I finally understood the system when I get to high school. I learned about how much community service is important for resume and the fact that getting good GPA wasn’t good enough in order to succeed in high school. The school where I went to require at least 3.5 GPA to get into National Honor Society along with many other community services and volunteers.…

To the kids there, I’m an inspiration and a role model who motivates them to work hard not only in the Immersion Program, but also in school. School and academics has always been important to me.…

So far, my SCE has consisted of organizing and preparing for the start-up of this year’s National Art Honor Society chapter. In addition to inviting members to join and having our first meeting, I have been setting up for the upcoming induction as well as composing our bylaws to the NAHS constitution. As of now, I have not been able to work on my deliverable, as that project will come into play when the activities and events of NAHS begin for the school year. When those events begin in November, I will be able to construct the deliverable for my SCE.…
