National Honor Society Four Pillars

National Honor Society members have to represent the four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Being a member of the NHS has given me the opportunity to learn and apply these pillars to my everyday life. I believe that I have demonstrated the four pillars through my high school experience. My academic studies are my primary focus. I always strive to do the best that I can do to achieve the highest grades possible so that I can stand out amongst my peers. I have sustained a high grade point average of a 4.00 while taking on many advance classes such as Spanish and physics. In addition to my scholastic achievements, I participate in various co-curricular activities. These activities have given me the opportunity to become …show more content…
I do the work that is required of me. I participate in class discussions. I provide help to fellow students who are lacking understanding in the material that is being taught. These lessons have made me realize that I have a duty to my school and community through leadership or service. My leadership skills have helped me to conduct and participate in many services for my community. Scribblers, an organization for Hale County young women to perform community service, has given me the opportunity to provide my service to my community and to others. Projects that I have participated in have been the canned food drive, teddy bear drive, Operation Christmas Child, the blood drive, and providing gifts to the nursing home. Participating in these services I believe has helped me form a better character. They have changed my every day individual decisions. I try to uphold my morals, demonstrate high standards for honesty and reliability, and show concern, courtesy, and respect for others. Evidence of my good character can be seen on my discipline records. To my acknowledgement, there are no questionable incidents that could be used to challenge my selection in the National Honor

I believe I am a good candidate to be selected for the Robert Vela High School National Honor Society because I am a dedicated student. My grades do reflect my abilities as a student, but my work ethic in the co-curricular activities that I participate is what really defines it as I put a lot of time and effort into them. In U.I.L. calculator applications, which is the main activity that I partake in, I sacrifice my time almost everyday after school and sometimes my lunch period throughout the school year, as well as the majority of my Saturdays to compete and practice. Not a lot of students would give up this much time and effort unless they are very dedicated. This also reflects my leadership and character as one has to work and communicate…

The four pillars of National Honor Society intertwine to help individuals become as successful as they dream to be. These pillars: service, scholarship, character, and leadership, have equal importance and if one goes unused, may destruct the equilibrium found in using them all. The pillars of the NHS are interdependent and in utilizing them, a person can establish a great foundation. For example, good character and scholarship, two vital characteristics of a true leader, can be developed by exercising the pillar of Service. Thus far, these pillars have shaped my development and it is my desire that they continue to do so.…

I believe that the four pillars of the National Honor Society are fundamental to the success of the society as a whole, as well as its individual members. Without strong character, honors students do not posses the leadership skills and the service-oriented attitude to experience success. Through ones service and leadership, scholarship is achieved and maintained. By making a commitment to learning, an individual effectively displays his or her character. In a way, each pillar has a connection to all of the others.…
