Vincent Van Gogh once said, “How can I be useful, of what service can I be? There is something inside me, what can it be?” In life, one usually seeks their great purpose and of what use they can possibly be to the world. Since a child, I have always wanted to be able to create an impact in the lives of others around me. I always dreamt of being remembered in an honorable way because of the difference I know I could make in people's lives. Having been elected to participate in National Honor Society, is an honor. It is an honor bestowed upon me that I hope to carry out through the remainder of the time I have left at Greater Lawrence Technical School. I devoted myself to being a key part of the interact club. I participated in events such as volunteering in local soup kitchens, Spicket River cleanup, earth day and helping to pick up trash around the city of Lawrence. After I saw what a difference I could make by just simply helping my community through the school, I decided to do some community service on my own. Following my trade area I went on to volunteer at Lawrence General Hospital. Throughout my time there, my eyes were opened even more as to what a change one can simply make by dedicating one's time to others. I helped with the patient's activities program, that allowed me to spend time with patients and assist them in keeping their mind occupied and making them feel important by just having a simple conversation with them. In addition, I spent some time as an emergency room assistant, which gave me an insight to what I really wanted to do in life.
