Occupational Safety and Health Program
The Nebraska National Forest & Grasslands (NNFG) Occupational Safety and Health Program outline authorities, objectives, policy and implementation of the plan as a whole. Authorities, objectives and implementation direction for specific OSHA programs that are not addressed in this document are implemented separately as stand-alone programs as applicable (example: Hearing Conservation, Hazardous Communication, Respiratory Protection, etc). In addition U.S. Forest Service, NNFG, or unit specific programs or direction that are not addressed in this document are implemented separately as stand-alone programs as well (example: Check Out- Check In Policy, Respiratory, Emergency Response Plan, etc.)
a. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), Public Law 91-596, Section 19, Federal Agency Safety Programs and Responsibilities, sets forth Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by authorizing enforcement of the standards developed under the OSH Act. Under section 19, it is the responsibility of the head of each Federal agency to establish and maintain an effective and comprehensive occupational safety and health program, which is consistent with the standards promulgated under section 6 of the OSH Act.
