The National Emergency Petroleum Act was passed in 1973. It was in response to the crude oil and petroleum crisis. This action was taken by President Richard Nixon. It states that the President has the promulgate regulation to distribute and control price of petroleum products. This was big in the oil crisis because we were running out of oil and no one could get it. If it weren’t for President Nixon our country could have been in deep trouble with no oil or petroleum products . This means that people couldn’t fuel up their cars, power plants couldn’t function,etc. The act set prices at a level consistent with maintaining and increasing production. Without the act in place the oil would be too cheap to be able to have enough production
