The last Quadrennial Defense Review was published in March of 2014. The Secretary of Defense is required by Title 10, U.S. Code, sec 118, to produce a review of the National Defense Strategy, with the assistance of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Additionally, it issues guidance for the Department of Defense to achieve National Security Strategy goals. Furthermore, the National Defense Strategy accomplishes this by establishing security and defense goals that support the overall mission of the National Security Strategy. The National Military Strategy supports the National Security Strategy and implements the National Defense Strategy. It describes how the Armed Forces plan to accomplish military objectives, and provides a vision for sustaining a force proficient enough to meet future challenges. The National Defense Strategy supports the National Security Strategy by establishing defensive objectives that guides the Department of Defense security activities, and provides direction for the National Military Strategy.
