National crime victimization survey: Analysis of data from this survey is done by the U.S Bureau of the Census to determine as accurately as possible the extent of crime in the United States by interviewing victims. In 1972, the U.S Bureau of the census began victimization studies to determine as accurately as possible the extent of crime in the United State. This was important because the URC only measured the number of arrest police made not the actual amount of crime committed. The amount of hidden crime has always been great, due to the fact the crime goes unreported to the police. The National Crime Victimization Survey was set up to overcome this problem. And it gives policy makers a better idea of just how much crime is actually committed.
