The general argument made by Jaweed Kaleem in his work, “In the ‘land of the free,’ are you free to sit out the national anthem?”, is that it is okay and not okay to sit out for the national anthem. More specifically, Jaweed argues that Colin Kaepernick should or should not sit during the national anthem. He is suggesting that some people believe that the American flag is sacred and not standing during the national anthem is insulting it. Others believe that everyone has the freedom of speech, so anyone can do or say what they want when the action isn’t illegal. In conclusion, Jaweed’s belief is that it is both right and wrong for Colin Kaepernick or anyone to sit for the national anthem because the flag is sacred and everyone has the freedom…

Did you know that while the American National Anthem was sung multiple NFL players knelt or sat down? The not funny thing about this is that it's was not just one or two players there were dozens of them. Three teams in general stood out the most when they stayed in the locker room while the anthem was ringing throughout the stadium. NFL players should stand for the National Anthem. The playing of the National Anthem is over a century long tradition, that takes place prior to sporting events. In the United States, it is commonly expected of members in the audience to stand and remove their hats. Colin Kaepernick, second string quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, decided to break the tradition of standing during the singing of the national anthem during their first three preseason games, going unnoticed by media until the third. I will begin by explaining how Kaepernick is going against a national tradition that intends to support the United States. Then, I will show how Kaepernick’s protest is not changing the Black Lives Matter movement, and how it is causing more conflicts than it is resolving.…

The national anthem is something we sing or show our pride to in direct correlation to the united states. I do not believe it has anything to do with racism, yet Kaepernick and others on sports teams across America do. I do not support Kaepernicks actions because I think hews on an American team and in America so he should support the United States not turn his back to it. I honestly think it is absurd that he even gets to stay on the team when he is disrupting and causing a negative attention to the team, I think these players and people who think America is so horrible should just be on their way somewhere else. All in all, I think Americans should support America.…

In regards to Colin Kaepernick refusing to participate in the National Anthem, I personally believe that it was not the appropriate thing to do. Specifically being because he is a public figure and it not only offends people around him but the country itself. It shows the world that if someone who is American doesn't support his own country then why would the rest of the world. I feel like there are other ways to go about voicing your opinion, but refusing to participate or at least stand up for the National Anthem shows an immense amount of disrespect to the people who have served and lost their lives and to their families. The way Colin Kaepernick tried to voice his opinion could have been done in many other ways, especially since…

According to Irving Janes (1972), groupthink occurs when a group makes an irrational decision because of group pressure fostering and the deterioration of ‘mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgement” (Irving, Janis, Victims of groupthink, p.9). Social influence is the effect that people have upon the beliefs or behaviors of others (Aaronson, 2004). Both groupthink and social influence theory have a factor in what we see as an ongoing reaction to the silent protest started by Colin Kaepernick in August 2016. In recent news on October 1, 2017 during a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers, about 30 of the 49ers players took a knee during the national anthem.…

The NFL has recently received a lot of media/political attention in the last year. About a year ago, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the playing of the National Anthem and he was kneeling while it was playing. His reasoning for why he was kneeling was to protest against police brutality and racism that is going on across the country. Last year, there were not many NFL players who supported Kaepernick and his form of protest, but this year there have been hundreds of NFL players joining in on the protest and there have been two major arguments that have developed. People who support refusing to stand for the National Anthem argue that athletes are justified in using their celebrity status to bring…
