The website I choice was the Smithsonian’s site on the Star-Spangled Banner and the Flag That Inspired the National Anthem. It was created by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History; and I can infer it was created to publicize the War of 1812 and how it led to the creation of our National Anthem. The website includes a variety of audio and visual material, such as the painting of the USS Chesapeake Captured (The War of 1812), and the portrait of Francis Scott Key (A Moment of Triumph). Along with the pictures, the site includes an MP3 file for the 19th Century of the Star-Spangled Banner. First, it is from the Smithsonian, the pioneer of museums and historical records. The information and passages are very well organized and easy to follow. They are not too long or hard to comprehend. Not only is well organized, it appeals to all viewers. For example, the pictures are helpful to visual learners, the audio files are for the auditory learners, the songs for the musical learners, and the mosaics for the artistic learners. No matter who you are, this website is a great resource for a project on the Star-Spangled Banner. Although the website has its positive, it has some negatives. For one, it contains no videos except for the national anthem singing contest. With history, most people want to feel like they’ve been at the event they are learning. Reenactment are a great way to do this. Watching a reenactment, such as the civil war, is a great way to learn about events in the past. Another great way to include videos is having a slide show presentation with explanations. Videos are a great way to explain a subject to an audience. Another con of this website is the color scheme.
