Nathaniel Hawthorne’s writing was influenced through his upbringing in a Puritanism town. Puritanism is _______. Puritanism comes from the church of England. They go by the name Puritans. The puritans are non-separating congregationalists with the Church of England. They separated from the Church of England to “purify” the Church. There are three types of Puritanism, quakers, antinomians, and baptists. Baptists carry out the “essential idea of Puritanism”. They believe that each individual has an indestructible God that is your faith. The Age of Enlightenment was in 1789 was the throwing out old authorities and creating new officials to renew the community. This age was the definition of Americanism and was the core of the 20th century. The puritans have a certain set of beliefs that they follow strictly. They follow the Bible strictly reading it daily. Salem was a very strict Puritanism city since the beginning. His family was also strict puritisns. When Hawthorne found a scarlet letter A is his mothers attic. He wrote his book The Scarlet Letter from inspiration from the letter he found. The book is about a woman who is shamed because she was an adulterer.
