Not only does Mr. Hooper believes people should wear veils but there are also some Muslims who believe black veils should be worn too. In contrast to Mr. Hooper, muslim woman wear black veils so they don 't attracted unwanted attention from men or unwanted feelings. Then there is a woman who are Roman Catholics who wear black veils when they renounce the worldly things in life when they become nuns and marry to God. There are many reasons to why people wear veils it just depends on the person 's beliefs and how faithful they are to them. Therefore, according to Mr. Hoopers actions he wore the veil so he could mourn everyone 's secret sin. As well as to show that he is not a hypocrite and that he won’t act like others and completely ignore the fact he has secret sins. Although many people in The Minister 's Black Veil saw the black veil as something evil that had to do with the devil, Mr. Hooper wears it to represent it as secret sin. Hooper wears the black veil. To begin with the first level of symbolization that comes to mind is that the Black veil represents a specific secret sin that Mr. Hooper committed. Which many believe it would be adultery because the day he began to wear the black veil was the death of one of the woman of the congregation. People who attended the funeral claimed to see a vision of Mr. Hooper and the dead woman holding hands. Secondly the black veil could represent the that people in general carry hidden sins in their hearts. “Finally, a group was chosen to question him, but once they were in his presence, they were unable to speak. The black veil seemed to hang down over the minister’s heart, the symbol of a fearful secret between him and them”.(pg. 342) In a matter of opinion, I think that once the group got to Mr. Hooper they couldn 't speak because the veil reflected their secret sins so they couldn 't handle the guilt. At the end of the example given, it states there was a secret between him and them. Therefore meaning it was their secret since they were the ones who paused and couldn 't speak and the only reason they would be scared would be because someone else knows their secrets.
