As the Revolutionary War faded in Nathaniel Bryce‘s memory, another image filled his mind. The smell was one they remembered from their adventures during the Revolutionary War. It was gunpowder! “Not another war”, was all Nathaniel Bryce could think. As Nathaniel Bryce looked down, he saw that they were dressed in a Union uniform… Looking up at the blue uniforms, he noticed a strange looking man with a beard. It was a man known as Ulysses S. Grant. Out of everything that Nathaniel Bryce’s history teacher said he only remembered that Grant was from the Union and wore a blue coat. He didn’t remember that he won against the South. When Nathaniel Bryce got up and tried to get Grant’s attention. “Excuse me sir,” Nathaniel Bryce said. “Oh hello there young man. What can I do for you?” …show more content…
Lincoln then explained. “Son we are fighting in the Civil War. Don’t you realize this? Grant is on my side as we fight against Robert E. Lee. Whose side are you on?” “I was just wondering what was going on. Honestly, I don’t know where I am at the moment. I am not choosing a side because I don’t know what really going on.” Nathaniel Bryce said. Before walking away, Nathaniel Bryce got an attitude with Lincoln and due to the attitude from Lincoln, Nathaniel Bryce was determined to find Robert E. Lee. While looking for Robert E. Lee, Nathaniel Bryce ran into another person who enlightened him and told him what was really going on with the Civil War. “Who are you if I may ask?” asked Nathaniel Bryce. “My name Jefferson Davis son. I’m the president of the confederate states. How can I help you?” Jefferson answered. “Abraham Lincoln just went off on me for “choosing” a side from this thing called a Civil War. What is really going on? Who side is whose?” Nathaniel Bryce said. “Well Grant and Lincoln are for the Union side unlike myself and Robert E. Lee. We are for the confederate side.” Jefferson

My time spent at Appomattox Court House has made me realize the affect these disagreements have on American citizens, especially the common people. Focusing on the honorable actions of General Grant, I feel the people with high political power in this country should approach situations with his mindset, which looked at every citizen as equal and thought of the consequences that would be placed on them through his actions. The goal of the Civil War for Lincoln and his men was to unite the country that had been broken, and Grant achieved this goal by treating every Confederate soldier like a citizen. The Appomattox Court House symbolizes what the nation can do and be with fair treatment and…

Prior to being elected, Davis was a member of the House of Representatives and the Senate. As a slaveowner, Davis believed in the importance of slavery in the South. Unlike Robert E. Lee, Davis was often labeled as a “traitor.” Though they were both Confederate leaders, their differences are seen when the Civil War comes to an end. Robert E. Lee surrendered with honor to General Ulysses S. Grant at the Battle of Appomattox Court House in 1865.…

Overall, Bragg lacked the fundamental qualities of a good and successful general. Rather than being supportive but firm, he was a bully to everyone around him. Therefore, when generals wrote to Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy, it was not solely based upon Bragg’s actions during his battles, but also his temper which they found…

Thomas Jefferson, one of the most popular founding fathers, the main author of the Declaration of Independence, and the third president of the United States of America was revered by his contemporaries and is still to this day a well respected figure in American history. But, this does not mean that the man had no faults. Often in todays world Thomas Jefferson is looked back upon and has been scrutinized by many for his apparent hypocrisy on matters such as slavery and on what he believed limitations of the federal government were to be. Although some of Jefferson’s past can be dark and questionable, he was no hypocrite, but a man who understood that his decisions would have lasting effects on the new country, and that putting his own personal…

The American Civil War was very misunderstood in that no one really knows the exact reason of why the war started. In Apostles of Disunion, Dew discusses topics such as slavery, racism, economics and state rights to push his point of view on the audience of why the war and secession began. Charles B. Dew wrote this book to inform the audience the secession came from not just the factor of state rights during the time between 1860 and 1861. Because Dew was a Southerner himself, he writes the book off of self-knowledge, experience others, and facts including people and their perspectives on the cause. The most common claim when it came to The Civil War’s cause is it beginning due to slavery and racism in the south; however Dew argues that the…
