Driven, generous, and gifted are the first words that come to mind when I think of Nathan Wetherell. This description has been reinforced time and time again throughout his high school career. Nathan has a sincere motivation to learn, as well as a desire to give back. Students comparable to Nathan are rare, and when they cross your path, they leave a lasting impression.

Nathan is a student committed to high standards and goals. His hard work has been recognized in the numerous academic awards he has received and high achievement, including high honors each marking period throughout his high school career and earning 5’s on all 5 AP courses he has completed. High scores on the PSAT has earned him recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist. Nathan not only established high academic standards, but additionally high moral standards. He is an individual who is confident in his decisions and is unyielding to the peer pressure that high school students face.

Nathan’s willingness to give back is quite admirable. South Windsor High School offers students the opportunity to obtain help in an after school homework club. Nathan eagerly tutors students in all grade levels in this club. Beyond his tutoring position in the homework club, in grade ten, Nathan began tutoring

In elementary school Nathan developed what was later diagnosed as chronic motor tic disorder. His family was told that he may or may not grow out of it and due to the physical pain caused by the tics, he eventually was treated with medication. His peers noticed his tics, which were always facial in nature, and this undoubtedly caused Nathan discomfort in social settings. Luckily, the medication helped a great deal but in high school, Nathan felt that perhaps he should try to wean off his medication. Under supervision of his doctor and not knowing exactly what would occur, he was able to stop the medication and the tics have
