Nathan Thomas a 21-year-old white male is a resident of Houston, Texas. He was born in a very strict and religious Baptist home, whose parents lived by strong religious values. His family was very popular among the community. His father a well-known politician and his mother a well-known doctor, were considered the elite in Texas. Thus, when his father became mayor of Houston, he kept secrets from his family in regards to his sexual orientation to uphold his family’s name. As a child Thomas hid the fact the he was strongly attracted to men. He would date women to please his parents, but would venture to down low gay clubs in the inner city of Houston when his parents went to sleep. After his senior year of high school he decided to come out his parents. Although his parents, specifically his dad, strongly disagreed with his lifestyle they continued to love him even though they felt “God was not happy with him”. Once, he arrived at the county jail, he informed officers that he was rapped. The police then integrated him and assumed he was I quote “Hallucinating because he was highly intoxicated”. Due to Thomas being afraid to spend the night in jail, he told authorities who his father was, with the hopes that with his name alone he would be released from jail. This however backfired when local journalist found out about the arrest of the mayor’s son. Instead of focusing on the rape, news reporters focused on the minor detail that Nathan was a gay male, primary because his father was completely against gay rights. When Nathan’s father found out about his arrest, he was furious and completely removed all ties from his son. To this day the case has been cold and authorities refuse to reopen the
