On the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenue, Nathan’s is a beautiful establishment of its time. With its hunter green Nathan’s famous sign and yellow awning, it’s known for its famous hotdogs and the beginning of ‘The Hotdog Contest’. On July 4th, 1916 four immigrants held a hotdog eat contest, to settle an argument over who’s more patriotic. This was the beginning of an annual tradition. Every 4th of July “thousands of people gather to the beautiful Coney Island to catch a glimpse of the hot dog eating legends” and celebrate a unique American tradition. Not only is Nathan’s famous but so are the board walks of Coney Island. “Nothing was better to me than Coney Island with its gritty innocence.
