Nathan Hale Role Model

Role models are people who positively influence and shape future generations based on their actions alone. Some role models are revered for their religious impact while others are known for their excellence and bravery in the military. An example of a consequential military leader whom I look up to is Nathan Hale because he demonstrated an unwavering amount of fearlessness while willingly paying the ultimate sacrifice for the good of a nascent America which is why he should be regarded as a moral role model. Nathan Hale was born on June 6th, 1755 to puritan parents in Coventry, Connecticut. When he reached the age of 14, he did not have to travel far for education and chose to enroll in Yale’s class of 1773. After graduating with excellence in subjects such as literature and debate, at age 18 he became a school teacher. Eventually, the tides inevitably turned in America and war broke out against Great Britain in April of 1775. The desperate general sought an army volunteer to take upon the demeaning task of crossing into enemy lines as a spy. Despite how degrading and dangerous the offer was, Nathan Hale naively accepted and posed as a schoolmaster. His mission was travel to Connecticut in order to retrieve information from the British who occupied Long Island. During this time, British General William Howe and his army seized Kip’s Bay in Manhattan so Hale made his way back to New York City in order to gain intelligence on their next attack. Amidst the confusion of the fire which broke out in the city on September 20th, Hale was supposedly recognized as a patriot by a Queen’s ranger and captured the following day.
