Nate Saint's Contributions

Nate Saint was raised in a Christian family that was committed to living their lives for Jesus. Because of this Nate developed a strong sense of purpose and conviction to serve the Lord. Nate Saint professed his faith in Christ in the summer of 1936 at the age of thirteen, shortly after that he began speaking at young people’s meetings at his church. At the age of nineteen Mr. Saint signed up for the US Army with the goal of flying and eventually becoming a commercial pilot. While in the Army he became very aware of the need for missionary pilots. After serving in the Army, Nate Saint committed his life to missionary work. Nate married, Marjorie Farris in 1948 and soon after they set out with the Missionary Aviation Fellowship to establish a base in Shell Mera, Ecuador. During his time in Ecuador Mr. Saint Invented a few devices that are still being used by missionary pilots today, such as the “bucket drop and the dual injection engine. This tribe was known for unprovoked attacks and killing sprees. Mr. Saint began making air drops of gifts to the Aucas after a few successful drops Nate Saint along with Jim Elliot, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming and Roger Youderian decided to visit the tribe. On January 8, 1956 they flew to a nearby area called Palm Beach and landed. Their first initial meetings were encouraging but a few days’ later tribes’ men attacked Nate Saint and the other missionaries with spears killing all of them. Nate Saints did not spend much time on the mission field but his life and death brought many in the Aucas village to Christ, including six of the men who were in the killing
