The Process of Selecting a Good Risk Assessment
The first step in the developmental stages of the project at hand, involved the selection of a team of five students who would work toward gathering the information required to complete the assignment. Specifically, each of the five team members was instructed to select two risk assessments. Several factors were considered and needed to be implemented for the sake of clarity and unification. It became imperative that each team member focus on selecting assessments which, not only pertained to the field of social work, but also have something to do with the process of evaluating risks in clients who may be experiencing dangerous levels of hardship. With this information in mind, the goal was to evaluate all of the selected assessments and then, through a process of elimination, come to a unanimous conclusion and choose the best one. During our first meeting, our team agreed to spend one week’s time to research a variety of risk assessments. The guidelines for the criteria to be considered in the selection process included:
1. Effectiveness
2. Clarity
3. Easy to score
4. Cost (should be free)
5. Aligned with the NASW Code of Ethics

At the time of our presentation, after a brief introduction, each team member proceeded with a 3-5 minute description of all top five choices. When appropriate, visual aids and/or copies of pertinent documents were shared with our audience so that they could better follow along with the presentation.
