Population density – this refers to the total number of a species in a location – in our case, the concentration of humans in the US.
To me, this is a bit intuitive in nature – the denser and greater a population is, the more strain it puts on its surrounding immediate environment. I base this on pure observation – housing, natural resource consumption, farming and secondary effects on the environment such as pollution. I see it happening right here in Nashville. The city of Nashville has reached a point that the population growth has slowed, but the surrounding areas are growing. The city is beginning to saturate the area with apartment complexes
