France Sr Was born. "big bill" as some called him use to skip school as a teenager and go make laps at a high banked track that was 1.5 miles long in his family model T ford near laurel

In 1935 the year he moved to Daytona, the track lost its world fame for racing because the track had became deeply rutted.
1949, big Bill had talked to his insurance company and made sure he could guarantee the purse and was able to build the soon to be home of the Daytona beach international speedway! 4 years later of construction and major loans, he proposed the new speed way to the public. the first race was in 1959 as it started the yearly event of the big Daytona 500!
With the engines roaring and a crowd of 41,921 spectators , the pressure was rising on the competitors.During qualifying speeds of 140mph and more were rolling around the track.
Cotton Owens ended up starting pole in the race but with a pack of vultures behind him that are willing to do anything for the 1st position. But during the 500 miles haven been completed ,
