Why are people upset about NASA and their space exploration program? I am going to write about the reasons behind many people oppose space exploration and why many people encourage space exploration. This topic is of interest to me because as a people who wanted to explore space and believes that space exploration is important, it is an issue that needs to be addressed and needs to be funded again. This topic will be interesting to my readers because there are still so many things to be explored and so many things to be learned from space and all it has to offer. Debate.org conducted a poll asking if space exploration is worth the money. There were many mixed answers, out of the population who answered, 44% of who answered, answered no, 56% of them answered yes. Someone said, “As the bible says, our purpose of living on Earth is to lead a holy life in order to be accepted in heaven.” Others still believe that no man has ever stepped foot on the moon. While there are many people saying that this is a waste of money, others disagree. One stated, “The Apollo missions inspired an entire generation of students to pursue math and science careers. Imagine how much the human race would be inspired by other space missions. So many people would be inspired for just six-tenths of a percent of the federal budget.” Lauren Farrar explained that because of our nature to ask questions and wonder, we want to know what is out there. She states that, “At one time or another, everyone has looked to the stars and wondered what’s really out there,” (KQEDLearning.) Many believe that all the money spent funding space exploration will be worth it at the end, also many others believe that all the money we are spending could have gone to something else, like schools, medical aid, houses for the homeless and for people who really need it.
