Fan Subbed Atime

The first time I ever watched anime was when I accidentally rented a wrong DVD from a rental store. When I realized my mistake rather than returning the CD, I decided to keep it. The show was called Naruto when I first watched Naruto it was dubbed in English. So it was a big surprise finding out when I went to watch the rest of the episodes online they were in Japanese. Since I had never heard or spoke Japanese the first few video I saw I had to guess what was going on plot wise and what the characters were saying through expression and their gaze. After, spending considerable time online watching Naruto I found some sites that had subtitle in the episode, fan-subs. Fan-subs have allowed me to understand and enjoy the new art form I was introduced to. By having easy access to thousands of online fan-subbed anime I have never needed to …show more content…
I wanted to find out what the anime industry thought about fan-sub. I found a book called Mechademia in which an article called “Dark Energy: What Fan-subs Reveal about the Copyright Wars” the author Ian Condry talked to some prominent figure in anime industry to get their insight on the anime fan-sub culture. In an interview regarding fan-subs Kubo Masakazu said “[they] think they are supporting anime but not a penny goes to the creators. It’s stealing,” (Mechademia). Kubo Masakazu “is a producer of the Pokémon movie series” (Mechademia). Another anime industry producer refused to comment Condry believe he did not comment because he did not wanted to anger the fans (Mechademia). After further research I found an article in the anime news network about an organization called Tokyo Anime Center posted a notice in an international fair to “ Stop Fan-subtitles” (Tokyo Anime Center) . The reasons they give are that it piracy and that “Data has shown that in the United States, there have been over 6 million downloads in any given week.” (Tokyo Anime

Marketers play an important role when it comes to when fans/consumers have the ability to create, communicate, and publish. Part of that role stems from catering to this new generation of consumers while the other part of that role includes quality control and target marketing. The main job of marketers is to appeal to the fans/consumers, and when they have the ability to create, communicate and publish, marketers must create and advertise product that will allow the consumers to do so. This includes possibilities such as interactive websites, live events, and other events that can involve the fan/consumer community. This is important to encourage fans/consumers to spread the work of an artist.…

Jasper, Summer and Dak, known more commonly as ‘The Trio’ have created a television series they – and I as their manager - believe will be ‘the next big thing’ in the television market. Their show is a teen drama essentially taking Shakespeare’s well known characters and placing them in a modern day high school setting. For instance Macbeth is the Vice Principle who eventually manages to oust the Principle and take over his position. Romeo and Juliet are high school sweethearts, still from opposing backgrounds, with Romeo being a classic Jock and Juliet being a band geek. The show will be akin to many other high school drama television shows such as ‘The O.C’ and ‘90210’.…

As I went through transcribing my English source videos, I began to notice a pattern in the transcriptions. Most of my comments were about the fact I did not understand the signs being signed or the fingerspelling was too fast for me. After making this comment multiple times and hearing myself make this comment, I realized that I truly need to work on my receptive skills to be able to understand the content of whatever assignment I am at as an interpreter. Along with working on my receptive skills, I noticed that my comments were very long winded.…

This expansion of the traditional soundscape, of course, isn’t without its justified criticism. Overdubbing and multi-track recording, by definition, allows artists to potentially polish their studio recordings to a degree of artificial perfection. Many critics agree that overdubbing induces a certain stiffness that isn’t present in live or single session recordings, and this rigidity directly contradicts the tenets of rock and roll, which decree it an organic expression of thought. For all the applause and awe it generated, even ‘Sgt. Pepper 's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ elicited a scathing and a rather ominous review from renowned rock music critic Lester Bangs:…

In our world, there is an ongoing debate about reinforcing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Fair use is being confused for piracy and copyright infringement, which can be devastating to someone's career. First, to understand this problem copyright and fair use need to be defined. To have something protected by copyright it must be recorded in some way, it must be original, and it must be creative (Popek 8). Fair use allows a creator to make something with copyright protected material, as long as the content has a different meaning and cites the original work (Popek 22).…

Like most children who grew up in a bilingual environment, I had trouble discerning Japanese and English when I was growing up in California, since I spent most of the time with my mother’s family. Because of that, any English I absorbed through PBS shows was mashed together with Japanese to form Japanglish. Then I briefly attended preschool in Naha, which made it even worse. I barely made it to elementary school. My kindergarten teacher recommended me to stay another year, but my parents refused to allow it.…

So, recently I read Deborah Tannen's 1994 essay "The Triumph of the Yell", in which she laments the deterioration of modern-day debate due to its over-combative nature. She argues that framing debates as a fight between opposing extremes obstructs the truth rather than bringing it to light. While I was reading it, I couldn't help but think of the anime fan community (as well as the gaming community, and the sad state of U.S. politics) and the "debates" that take place within it. Far too often, they turn into unintelligible battles of ad hominem attacks and self-serving logic, rather than anything of real substance. Much of this boils down to the idea that anyone who doesn't agree with you is either a "fanboy" or "elitist".…

Video games have a special place in our lives. What were once flickering black and white blocked images on a television screen are now detailed beings with actions we experience on an emotional level. Some games now tell stories and evoke emotional responses similar to the finest literature or theater. For instance, Mass Effect 3, one of my favorite third person RPG game series. Towards the end of the game, as the emotional tugging piano music played, faces of the main character's friends Flashes by, leaving you sad and depressed in a good way, falling in love with the characters throughout your journey in the game.…
