Narrow Focus Definition

Decent Essays
I feel like I have written a paper before that lacked a narrow focus. The outcome of that paper was that it was all over the place and might have been hard for another reader to follow or understand exactly what the main focus was supposed to be and you just get lost in everything. I do see the importance and value of a specific problem to identify and focus. When you are writing a paper you don’t want to lack a narrow focus because you want your paper to flow right and get the point across that you are trying to make. You don’t want your paper to be so broad that you get lost and forget what the specific focus is.

The term “invention”, reminds me of the old age saying “necessity is the mother of invention” (unknown author). The chapter discusses how “classical invention” was a “rhetoric” that only highly educated, usually “speakers and writers” used to relay information to the public. Since most people of that time were labors and could not read or write, believed these scholars to have all the answers. Referring “to the means of discovering possible arguments, providing ‘speakers and writers with sets of instructions to help them fine proofs appropriate for any rhetorical situation’”…

Throughout my English 1102 class I have been assigned to read various works of literature, and create my own works through three essays, several smaller in-class assignments, and discussion. This has included focusing and analyzing different topics and aspects that go into these works. Before this class, much of my literary work would be focused solely on surface material; however, though this class, I have gained the ability to more intently analyze topics and effectively elaborate on them. Before this class, I would read mostly just to know the general idea of what the piece is about; now that I have taken this English class, I have learned to better analyze material. While I already knew about symbolism, and that there can be certain…

Fate and Humanity: Formalism and “A Good Man is Hard to Find” Formalism has been a theory of literary thought for many years. One of the first predominant theories of analyzing literature, formalism is old-fashioned in comparison to the numerous other theories that have emerged in the years since, such as structuralism and deconstruction. Comparatively, formalism is quite surface level, as it analyzes specific parts of the stories rather than other, more invasive theories. Because of this, the meaning of the text can be inferred from the text, yet it lacks the complexity of many other theories of analysis.…
