Thanksgiving dinner in my family is a big deal all our family and friends gather around to celebrate. There is always plenty of food, drinks, music and laughter. My family is loud, crazy and not afraid to voice their opinions so there is always drama at every dinner or family event. I chose to write on this because I never payed attention to detail or interactions at these dinners like why the women cook? Or why it is important that we are all together. I also chose to write on this because I want to know how culture and traditions are incorporated at our thanksgiving dinner. I never noticed any of this because I’m so used to it always being the same like a routine at each dinner. The event took place at my aunt Maria’s home on November 24th

They turn into young men and get to go where ever they want and with whomever they want. They have no chores or curfews but are expected to continue with their education. At fifteen they start going out with the older guys it’s like if they were admitted into a secret club that they weren’t allowed in before. This reminds me of the Kayapo tribe the Kapot village when the boys move in to the main house in the village. According to my uncle who has five boys they have more freedom because they should experience life before having to settle down and get married. They are the new men who will pass down the families last name so they get more privileges than the girls. This is important to all my family because they believe their last name is the legacy that my grandfather left for them and they want it to keep growing and make my grandfather proud. Your last name in my culture is very important because it’s part of your status. If your family is well known, they will recognize you by your last name because of your family’s reputation in society. That’s the reason why it’s important for the boys to have more freedom because they must find a wife to grow the family name.
