As morning came I heard the birds chirping and my mom yelling from the kitchen “trey get up its time for school,”! As I’m dragging myself out of bed I get a call from my coach telling me “trey is you up for school? you better be we have one of our biggest games today and I need you to be up and ready cause I’m counting on you to be a leader for the rest of the team”. After the call I was really focused and ready to play, we were going to play our school rivals Cleveland heights which were one of the hardest teams on our schedule and even though I was ready to play in the back of mind I was scared that we would lose. I listen to this song before every game to help me get more confidence and also get my head in the game so that I’m focused and ready to play basketball. In my head all I could think now was that I’m ready to play and that I wasn’t scared or nervous to play Cleveland heights anymore. While in the gym I start to get changed into my basketball uniform and then work on my jump shot, while I’m shooting the ball I started to see the bleachers fill up with fans from both teams. By that point we were down by five with one minute thirty seconds left on the clock my coach yells “take the ball we need the ball” so while Cleveland heights guard brings up the ball I quickly sneak behind him and take the ball and go down to our hoop for a thunderous dunk which made the crowd cheer out with joy. In my head I think “ok we our down by three and need the ball as soon as possible.” This time they bring the ball up the court with another player and as he tries to drive toward the basket to score he gets foul. My heart drops and I thought it was over. But as he goes to the free throw line he misses both free throws and gives us a chance to get down and score. We end up scoring a quick layup which now we our down by one with ten seconds left in the game. As Cleveland heights try to pass in the ball dive in front of the ball and tip it to my teammate. We didn’t have any more time outs so my coach told me to take the last shot. With seven seconds left I dribble the ball down the court I cross back and forth with the ball to create space then as I pull up for a

I started playing recreational basketball for Montville in the third grade; since then, I had dominated the competition as I hit my growth spurt earlier than most of my friends. Not only was I taller than most of the kids I played with, but I was also faster and stronger. Coming into the tryout, I was confident in my abilities and believed that I would make the team. Upon finding out the results of the tryouts, I was devastated and felt cheated because I thought I was better than some of the kids that made the team.…
